Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Merit Scholars
The Shehu Musa yar'adua Merit Scholars Programme was established to develop future leaders and empower talented youth by providing them educational services that will enable them to cultivate their talents and abilities. Deserving primary school pupils will acquire a comprehensive private secondary school education that will provide them with the necessary skills to enhance the lives of others.

Students who displayed exceptional talent were nominated by the headmasters from government primary schools in Abeokuta, Katsina, and Yola based on academic performance, financial need and extracurricular accomplishment. Pretest examinations were held in the three states in December 2004 and interviews were conducted in January and February 2005.

The first six Merit Scholars will be enrolled at ABTI Academy in September 2005. Students from Enugu, Kaduna, and Akwa Ibom will be selected next year. Subsequent years will include students from each state of the federation.

Through the Yar'Adua Merit Scholars Programme, the foundation hopes to demonstrate that any child, no matter their background, can perform at the highest level if given adequate support.
